A Google Retail Store? Why It's Not As Crazy As It Sounds Posted: 15 Feb 2013 09:58 PM PST Until fairly recently, it was hard to think of a company less concerned with the messy business of physical goods than Google. Search engine, search ads, cloud computing--all virtual, if you don't count the tens of thousands of people and a gazillion servers it takes to create it all. |
Posted: 15 Feb 2013 09:53 PM PST Louisiana swelters in the summer. August is the most intense month, with enervating heat and humidity. Athletes treat admonitions to hydrate well the way we all viewed our mothers' stern warning to stay out of the water for an hour after eating--with surface acquiescence and extreme skepticism. In dozens of cases in the last thirty years athletes have died of dehydration. Henry White was a 21-year-old junior basketball player getting ready for his first season at Grambling State University. On August 26, 2009 he showed up for the earliest conditioning workouts. He spent a rigorous session weight lifting. He then was punished for showing up to campus late by being forced to run four and a half miles on an a day in the heat and humidity of August in Louisiana. He collapsed upon finishing, and he died 12 days later. |
'Aliens: Colonial Marines' Gamers: Don't Give Up (Hadley's) Hope Posted: 15 Feb 2013 08:40 PM PST When Aliens: Colonial Marines launched on Tuesday, the majority of reviewers hated it the way Ripley hates xenomorphs...and the gamers who paid to play A:CM hated it even more. Maybe I'm saying this because I didn't experience as many issues as other people had--also, I had fun playing, because killing aliens = good times--but I'd like you to give A:CM a second chance...with an important caveat. |

Mother Nature to Keystone Pipeline Protesters: Chill Out! Posted: 15 Feb 2013 05:45 PM PST Opponents of the Keystone XL pipeline are taking to the National Mall on Sunday to pressure President Obama into denying (via the State Department) a permit to build it. If completed, it will carry oil from Canada's Alberta tar sands to U.S. Gulf Coast refineries. The opposition is down to a single issue—climate change. |
Posted: 15 Feb 2013 05:43 PM PST Back in September, I wrote an article entitled: Is Kratom the New "Bath Salts" or Just an Organic Pain Reliever with Euphoric Effects? The response was massive. Not only did the article receive nearly 47,000 views and more than 80 comments, but I received several emails--almost all of which were written in support of Kratom. |
