A Successful Fight For The Right To A Non-Trademarked Party Posted: 25 Feb 2013 09:54 PM PST You may remember from college a drinking game called a "power hour" - which challenges participants to drink a shot of beer every minute for 60 minutes. While it's not a game for the faint of heart - or liver - it has been popular enough to spawn a variety of merchandise geared towards playing the game. |

White Dwarfs May Hold The Key To Finding Alien Life Posted: 25 Feb 2013 09:24 PM PST At the end of one part of a star's life, if it's not massive enough to become a neutron star or black hole - which is the vast majority of stars - it will shed mass and eventually become a very dense type of star known as a white dwarf. White dwarves are no longer capable of the nuclear fusion that sustains our Sun and most other stars. However, its residual thermal energy is enough to sustain heat for billions of years as it slowly dissipates. Even white dwarves that are close in age to that of the universe still retain their heat. |
An Oscar Night Reflection of a Different Kind Posted: 25 Feb 2013 09:12 PM PST As I watched the Academy Awards last night, I gazed upon the anointed ones -- these performers, writers, scene crafters, directors, producers, movie-theme composers and high-tech animators. Many of them prepare all their lives for these Oscar moments, whether they are on the stage or in the first ten rows scanned by the cameras. When you really think about it, however, we're all there in spirit somewhere -- even the little folk who make their fame possible by paying to see their movies. |

The 40 Highest-Earning Hedge Fund Managers And Traders Posted: 25 Feb 2013 09:03 PM PST In 2012, prominent hedge fund managers made headlines by successfully trading against JPMorgan Chase & Co., spending lots of money to influence the U.S. presidential election, and proclaiming that a nutritional supplements company was operating a pyramid scheme. While they made plenty of noise, very few of these traders managed to beat the U.S. stock market after charging their investors rich fees. |
