4 Reasons Why John Carter Was Surprisingly Awesome Posted: 10 Mar 2012 10:40 PM PST Actually, as a fan of both the Edgar Rice Burroughs book, A Princess of Mars, and of Andrew Stanton, who directed WALL-E, I wasn't really that surprised that John Carter would turn out to be an entertaining adventure. So I'd like to convince you to see John Carter, particularly while it's still in theaters. |

Microcredit doesn’t end poverty, despite all the hype Posted: 10 Mar 2012 02:37 PM PST The idea has a wonderfully simple and powerful appeal: Give a tiny loan to a poor person in a poor nation. Repeat across the planet. Read full article >> |
Michael Gerson: The controversy over Kony 2012 Posted: 10 Mar 2012 08:27 AM PST The viral success of the KONY2012 film, produced by Invisible Children, has called immense Internet attention to the hunt for Joseph Kony, as well as provoking some criticism. Kony is Africa's most notorious militia leader. The conflict displaced more than a million people into camps. Kony and his commanders were eventually chased into the ungoverned border region between the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the Central African Republic (CAR) and South Sudan. The LRA is now diminished and on the run. But it still conducted more than 300 attacks last year, generating fear and instability far beyond its numbers. Read full article >> |
