Armenians vote in presidential election marred by shooting Posted: 17 Feb 2013 09:59 PM PST YEREVAN (Reuters) - Armenians voted in a presidential election on Monday that is likely to hand incumbent Serzh Sarksyan a new five-year term, but the lack of any serious opposition and an assassination attempt on one of his rivals cast a shadow over the election. Opinion polls suggest Sarksyan's victory is all but certain. He is on target to win more than 60 percent of the votes in the small, landlocked country in the South Caucasus, with the next of the other six candidates barely in double figures. ... |

Are We Witnessing The Collapse of Arsene Wenger's Arsenal? Posted: 17 Feb 2013 10:39 PM PST When a large organization fails, it typically fails suddenly and quickly. Sometimes the failure comes with minimal warning, like the banking collapse of 2008. The more likely scenario involves a gradual decline that precedes a quick collapse based upon some big event that sends it over the cliff edge – think the auto industry in 2008. Such gradual declines are often marked with a number of bad product decisions, under- or malinvestment by the organization, and an internal crisis of confidence in the organization's leadership that leads to the best and most prescient employees taking off for other more successful firms before the ultimate collapse occurs. These problems can be especially acute for organizations that were once successful and are trying to rediscover their prior glory. These general patterns hold whether it's a public business, a non-profit charity, or even an English soccer club. |
What's Wrong With Apple's TV Ads Lately? Posted: 17 Feb 2013 10:35 PM PST Apple is out with two new television ads that aim to show people what they can do with its iPad and iPad mini tablets. Named "Alive" and "Together," they feature quick-cut examples of cool visual apps, punctuated by rapid-fire printed words almost too fast to make out individually and three shouted words like, you know, "alive" and "together." Also "deep," "bright," "loud," and "wild"--or Wilde, as a clunky visual pun then shows an Oscar Wilde book. |
