In this Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, Afghan women clad in burqas sit near their packed bags of humanitarian aid donated by International Organization for Migration (IOM) for drought-hit families in Mazar-e-Sharif, Balkh province, north of Kabul, Afghanistan. The United Nations appealed for $142 million on Oct. 1 to help those hit by the drought in 14 northern provinces where up to 80 percent of non-irrigated fields yielded little to no crops. So far, about $49 million has been pledged by aid groups, the U.S. and European nations.
