Italians vote in parliamentary elections

Supporters wait for Italian comic-turned-political agitator Beppe Grillo, leader of the anti-establishment 5 Star Movement, to deliver his speech at a final rally in view of the upcoming general elections, in Rome, Friday, Feb. 22, 2013. Grillo fills piazzas from Milan to Rome, from Palermo to Verona with Italians who seem to get some catharsis from his rant against politician who drove the country to the brink of financial ruin, industrial managers whose alleged shenanigans are tarnishing prized companies and bankers who aided and abetted the other two classes of powerbrokers. (AP Photo/Andrew Medichini)ROME (AP) — Will Italy stay the course with painful economic reform? Or fall back into the old habit of profligacy and inertia? These are the stakes as Italy votes in a watershed parliamentary election Sunday and Monday that could shape the future of one of Europe's biggest economies.

Former U.S ambassador Thomas Pickering speaks at the International Economic Alliance Global Investment Symposium in New YorkWASHINGTON (Reuters) - Former American diplomat Thomas Pickering said what struck him most during a review of last year's attacks on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya, were the frequent personnel changes, second-guessing on security upgrades, and dismissive attitude toward dozens of security incidents. The temporary status of the mission also led to uncertainty about providing additional funding, including for security, he said in an interview. NASCAR's YouTube Problem

Posted: 23 Feb 2013 08:42 PM PST

On Saturday, a crash at Daytona sent debris flying into the stands, injuring at least 28 people. Kyle Larson's car was shorn in two; Larson was unhurt. Naturally, people in the crowd shot video of the accident from with their smartphones. One fan named Tyler Anderson, who was standing close to where a tire crash-landed, posted a (mildly shocking) clip to YouTube. NASCAR, asserting its rights to images of everything that occurs at any NASCAR race, had the video taken down as a copyright violation. Of course, that didn't last long, as copies of the clip immediately started showing up elsewhere. NASCAR, meanwhile, which had posted its own accident-related video, explained itself this way: The fan video of the wreck on the final lap of today's NASCAR Nationwide Series race was blocked on YouTube out of respect for those injured in today's accident. Information on the status of those fans was unclear and the decision was made to err on the side of caution with this very serious incident.—Steve Phelps, NASCAR Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. Later, after a small tempest of protest, YouTube unblocked the video, saying that it was not a copyright violation. You can see it above or here.
