GDC 2013 is the first game conference I've attended. It's remarkable, so far. Mostly because of its spectacle, but also because it places all these extremely passionate and intense people in close proximity to one another. I sat at a swank bar with Ultima creator Richard Garriott earlier today, and talked Shroud of the Avatar and Tracy Hickman. Turns out all three of us at one point lived in the same small town I live in now.
