You go to Dubai for the flash, I'd always heard, and Abu Dhabi for the culture. When I went to Abu Dhabi, though,  I kept hearing that if you were single, you lived in Dubai for the bars/nightclubs/action but if you were married,  you lived in Abu Dhabi because it was calmer, easier, better for families. Since I'd just come from close to a month in India and all of its fascinating if nerve jangling frenzy, cooling down, at least in energy terms, was appealing. So were the perfect roads in this emirate, flush with cash with 95% of the UAE's oil,  perfect cars (in several days, I saw only one car that looked more than a year old) orderly traffic and lack of noise. But where was the culture?
