The War On Bros: Exchange Subsidies Won't Protect Young People From Obamacare's Higher Insurance Premiums

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 10:09 PM PDT

The controversy continues over the impact of Obamacare on rising health insurance premiums. Today, the President visits California to tout his health law in that state. As I noted last week and on Monday, California's new subsidized insurance exchange announced prices that were nearly double those commonly found in the existing individual insurance market. In response, progressive bloggers are arguing that "rate shock" for young people is overstated, because it mainly applies to healthy people, and to those who won't benefit from Obamacare's subsidies. So I went back and rebuilt my quantitative analysis from the ground up, in order to address both of these points. What I found out might surprise you: The majority of participants in Obamacare's exchanges will still pay more.

Ten Reasons Why No One Hates The San Antonio Spurs

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 08:48 PM PDT

Non-Trash Talkers: There is no trash talking coming from the Spurs; No forecast of multiple championships; No media events staging the coming together of the Big 3, though they have at least two future Hall of Famers in Tim Duncan and Tony Parker, with a possible Mano Ginobili on the fringe of the elite. Most Humble Award Among Stars: Duncan has as many championships as LeBron James has MVP awards – 4. He is also the all-time leading block leader in playoff history and a sure-fire Hall of Famer. Elder Inspirations: For people who are old and draw inspiration from the elder-well, Duncan is 37. Duncan is 82% for the year from the free throw line and having one of his . Loyalty: For those who like the old fashioned loyalty and players staying with a team, the Spurs trio of Duncan, Parker and Ginobili has been together 11 years. None of them left to find a championship elsewhere, though they each are all-stars who are highly marketable. Weight Loss Inspirations: Tim Duncan. Lost 25 pounds in recent years during the last of his 37 years.  Legacy Building: Yes Duncan has 4 championships in 9 years, but his last was in 2007. The Underdog. Miami is the most talented team. They are the current champions. They have the best player on the planet. The Spurs have been fading in recent years. Since the last Spurs championship, they had first round playoff exists, and after taking a 2-0 lead on the Oklahoma Thunder last year, lost 4 straight to bow out ungracefully.  Sentimental Last Chances – Duncan last played in the finals 6 years ago. He may not get to another chance before he retires from the game. They don't play dirty and they have no iconic player you love to hate. They have a style of play that shows excellence, efficiency, and flexibility to play fast or deliberately in the half court. So if you love either style, you love, not hate these Spurs.
