The north Indian state of Uttarakhand, blessed with nature's bounty- it has the Himalayas and some of India's mightiest rivers run through it- was the scene of nature's fury this week as flash floods and landslides caused a devastation that is being dubbed as a 'Himalayan tsunami'. Amid the torrential monsoon rain, rivers overflowed, destroying homes and trapping thousands of people in the debris. Television coverage saw entire buildings toppling over and being swept away in raging rivers.

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - A security guard shot and killed an Israeli man on Friday at one of Judaism's holiest sites in Jerusalem, the Western Wall, which was immediately shut to visitors, police said. The guard opened fire after the man, in an adjacent restroom, was heard shouting "Allahu Akbar," Arabic for "God is greatest", police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said. Rosenfeld said the guard opened fire with his pistol because he suspected the man was a Palestinian militant. ...

Before a packed house of hundreds of owners of the company's electric vehicles, Tesla Motors demonstrated the ability to restore an electric vehicle to a full charge in less than half the time it takes to refill a gas tank. Swapping a depleted battery on a Model S sedan in just over 90 seconds, Tesla showed it's possible for electric vehicles to get back on the road faster than their fossil-fuel counterparts. CEO Elon Musk said the company would make battery swapping available as soon as the end of 2013, starting in California, with the Boston-D.C. corridor to follow.
