Voyager 1 Has Almost Left The Solar System

Voyager 1 was launched in September of 1977 - and now nearly 36 years later, it's on the cusp of being the first human-made object to ever leave our solar system. Scientists at NASA believe it's currently in the last region of the solar system before entering interstellar space. The boundary line (well, less a line than a fuzzily defined region) is the edge of where charged particles carried by solar wind travel to.

Who Got Rich This Week: A New Billionaire, An Arkansas Banker And More

Posted: 29 Jun 2013 10:02 PM PDT

Each week at Forbes we scan our database of corporate insiders to see who got richer from the action in the stock market. The good news is that the major American equity indices avoided a three week losing streak this week. Despite taking a dive at the bell on Friday, the S&P 500 closed the week up nearly 1%, while the NASDAQ approached a 1.5% gain. The bad news is that price action is still being driven by the Federal Reserve's unprecedented participation in the market and the fickle opinions of investors as to what exactly that participation will look like going forward and what it even means in the first place. After Fed chairman Ben Bernanke announced last Wednesday that the central bank plans to begin tapering its asset purchases this year, markets tumbled, just as everyone knew they would. After a pair of Fed presidents told investors they overreacted, markets rose. Here are a couple of insiders who managed to strike it rich, despite all the drama:

An HIV-infected patient displays medicine at a hospital in Payao provinceBy Kate Kelland LONDON (Reuters) - Doctors could save three million more lives worldwide by 2025 if they offer AIDS drugs to people with HIV much sooner after they test positive for the virus, the World Health Organization said on Sunday. AT&T's System Can "Self-Destruct" Emails After They've Been Sent -- And Even Read

Posted: 29 Jun 2013 09:33 PM PDT

AT&T has a new patent that just may change the way organizational email works in the near future. Patent number 20130159436 was made available to the public this week and describes a scheme the telecom outfit has developed that would allow the sender of an email to control that message's behavior after it has been sent, such as to whom it can and can't be forwarded and can even the message's lifespane -- a message can now have an expiration date, after which time a message would be unreadable. It also includes a neat trick that corporate security managers will love: Messages can be remotely "self destructed" if they need to be.
