DUBAI (Reuters) - Reformist former Vice-President Mohammad Reza Aref has withdrawn from Iran's June 14 presidential election, he said in a statement carried by the ISNA news agency on Tuesday. The sole reformist candidate still standing in the election, Aref said he had received a message from reformist former President Mohammad Khatami on Monday evening saying his remaining in the race was not "expedient". ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Hundreds of Turkish riot police gathered on Tuesday on a major avenue leading up to Istanbul's Taksim Square where protesters have been staging demonstrations against plans to redevelop a park, a Reuters witness said. Broadcaster NTV and other media outlets said the police were preparing to remove barricades which have been erected by the demonstrators in the area around Taksim Square, which has been the scene of violent clashes between police and protesters.
