The stock rose as much as 5.3 per cent to S$1.58 in Singapore from an IPO price of S$1.50. The shares were up 1.3 per cent at S$1.52 as of 10:45 am The carrier raised S$233 million ($166 million) in the share sale. The retail portion of Tiger Air's sale was subscribed 21 times after the airline and low-cost rivals such as AirAsia Bhd won market share from flag carriers by adding more flights and offering cheaper fares. Singapore's Straits Times Index rose the most in a decade last year as Asian economic growth withstood the worst of a global recession. "People are more confident of a recovery in the airline industry and that the worst is over," said Rohan Suppiah, an analyst at Kim Eng Securities Pte in Singapore. "The question now is how strong a recovery we're going to see." The company, with operations in Singapore and Australia, sold 155.6 million shares in the IPO.
